The Sound of Hope author Anne Bauer's
inspiration for writing a true accuont of her life as
an adopted individual can be distilled into one
simple word—hope. Woven into her story is the
hope of fostering awareness of the civil rights of
adoptees and promoting reform in the current laws
pertaining to adoptee records.
Bauer, who was born in the state of New Jersey,
was surrendered by her birth mother to a Catholic
adoption agency. At ten days old, she was placed
into the home of her adoptive family. Her parents
told her at a very early age about her adoption
status, however, no further knowledge about her
origins was divulged. She was simply told there
were other parents, and yet, at the same time, was
expected to pretend they didn't matter anymore—
they didn't exist.
After years of silenced questions, Anne searched in
order to uncover her origins against walls of
opposition from her family and society. The Sound
of Hope is her story.
Anne, who currently lives in northern New Jersey
with her husband and their three children, is an RN
and a Reiki energy healer. She is a former foster
parent and periodically volunteers at Children's Aid
and Family Services, Bergen County NJ.
